About the Presenter – Effi Liden

Effi is a certified toxicologist and the Registrar and Membership Officer of ACTRA.

She is a Director in the Health Assessment Team at the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), with responsibility for assessing the human health and safety aspects of applications for approval of pesticides and veterinary medicines, registration, approval of permits to use pesticides/vet medicines for a specific purpose or the review of an existing chemical product and its uses.

She is a technical specialist with over 20 years’ experience in hazardous materials, human health risk assessment and risk communication, in both public and private sectors, with a background in chemistry, toxicology, regulatory toxicology, environmental public health, policy and emergency management. She has supported the development of state and national health policies. She was the Victorian state representative on the Advisory Committee for Chemical Scheduling (ACCS) and Joint Advisory Committees on Medicines and Chemical Scheduling (ACMS-ACCS). She also chaired the Expert Reference Panel for Environmental Health (ERPEH), a subcommittee under enHealth and the Australian Health Protection Committee (AHPC). She has taught university Masters students in the field of environmental health, toxicology and risk assessment.
